The charm of the Mediterranean at Walt Disney World Resort. We have long enjoyed the concept of visiting European countries at Epcot in the World Showcase. Still, Disney’s Riviera Resort brings the splendor of France and the Mediterranean even more alive to visiting guests. A Disney resort is always a thrill, but this resort is particularly unique in that it is located right on Disney Skyline, the new gondola system that makes getting to and from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot a breeze. Much in the fashion of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the lobby is small and understated with limited seating—lovely but perhaps a bit too cozy. And the strange check-in system of roaming cast members with electronic tablets is totally chaotic. No one knows who is next in line, and the result is the feeling of being overlooked and invisible to the arriving guest—all the more reason to utilize Disney’s Online Check-in system found on your My Disney Experience account. Off the lobby is Le Petit CafĂ©, a coffee shop by day and cocktail bar by night. Behind it and accessible from the CafĂ© is Voyageurs’ Lounge, interesting in that it contains nostalgic memorabilia from Walt’s travels to the Riviera. Out back lakeside is European-inspired gardens perfect for strolling with bubbling fountains and shimmering mosaic murals. Two pools and a delightful splash area make for plenty of aquatic delights. The family-friendly Riviera Pool is a zero-entry option with a fun slide wrapping around a stone turret. The splash area, S’il Vous Play, inspired by the grand public fountains of Europe, has two slides, spraying toadstools, and a la Fantasia cavorting characters. For a more laid-back vibe, choose Beau Soleil Pool in the central courtyard. Of course, you can’t help but notice the double-R monogram logo found everywhere throughout the resort. Don’t miss the tunnel leading to Disney’s Skyliner transportation hub where more than 1 million hand-cut, hand-laid tiles make up two sparkling mosaic murals, one of Peter Pan’s nighttime London, the other Rapunzel’s floating lantern scene from “Tangled.” Tour Disney’s Riviera Resort at the Glass Slipper Concierge YouTube channel. 341 units. 1080 Esplanade Ave, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830; 407-939-5277. One-of-a-kind Tower Studios are designed for two Guests, a combination of efficiency and luxury—and are unique to Disney’s Riviera Resort. With only 255 square feet smaller even than a room at a Value Resort, you’ll find a microwave, small refrigerator, a built-in desk with drawers, and a cleverly hidden pull-down queen-size bed that tucks away during the day for a lounging space. But for such a small space, the bathroom is surprisingly fairly spacious with an oversized shower and large single-sink vanity. Deluxe Studios sleeps up to 5 people at 423 square feet with a queen-size bed, a pull-down queen-size bed, and a single pull-down bunk-size bed. You’ll also find a kitchenette along with a private patio or balcony. View Disney’s Riviera Resort’s Deluxe Studio on the Glass Slipper Concierge YouTube channel. One-bedroom villas are 813 square feet sleeping up to 5 adults. You’ll find a king in the master, a queen Murphy bed that pulls out and rests on the sofa in the living room above which is a surprise Peter Pan mural, and a single pull-down bed in the bureau below the oversized TV. The villa’s kitchen comes with stainless steel appliances that mix well with the cream/gray color scheme and bench-style dining area. A full-size refrigerator has an icemaker, and other appliances include stove, dishwasher, and microwave. In the living area are two melon-colored occasional chairs and a steel blue chenille sofa atop wood flooring and a print area rug. Access the balcony or patio from either the living area or the bedroom. The bedroom, carpeted in a soft beige, has a king bed adorned with a lovely blue tufted headboard; however, the bed linens are a bit itchy and not up to deluxe standards. Also found are an easy chair, desk, bureau, closet, and full-length mirror. The villa’s spacious bath is a winner with two areas one area with a single-sink vanity with lighted makeup mirror and a gorgeous bubble jet, freestanding tub; the other holds a single sink vanity and oversized shower. All encased in gorgeous white/gray marble and with perfect lighting my pet peeve. In the entry hall, you’ll find one closet with a stacked washer/dryer and another is holding an iron/ironing board, pack n’ play, electronic safe, and high chair. View Disney’s Riviera Resort’s One-bedroom Villa on the Glass Slipper Concierge YouTube channel. A two-bedroom villa is simply a combination of the one-bedroom and a connecting Deluxe Studio with two queen beds. Sleeps up to 9 adults in 1,245 square feet. 3-Bedroom Grand Villas are stunning, offering a King Bed in the master, easy chair and ottoman, and a private balcony; the spacious single-area master bath comes with double vanity, oversized shower, whirlpool tub, and separate toilet area. Each guestroom has two queen beds, one with an en-suite bathroom, the other with a bathroom out in the hallway, but only one of the two rooms has a balcony. The spacious living area dons hardwood flooring topped with a blue/cream area rug, a cream-colored sectional sleeper sofa, two powder blue easy chairs, and an open kitchen with an island seating four; partitioned off is a formal dining room seating ten. A spacious balcony runs the length of the living room. A full-size washer and dryer is a nice bonus as well. Sleeps up to 12 adults in 2,530 square feet. Recently I had an opportunity to stay in a Deluxe Studio at one of my favorite hotels Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Lake Tower is a Disney Vacation Club Resort here at Walt Disney World, but rooms are also available to the general public. In the hotel industry, the days of hotels only offering guests standard rooms are long gone! Nowadays, there is a myriad of room types and suites at hotels around the world meaning that any group size and most preferences can be catered for. Of course, variously sized and styled hotel rooms are made available at differing rates which, as a hotel management company, we recommend adjusting depending upon occupancy, time of year, and other factors. Rooms tend to fall into categories when it comes to price bands, the type of dĂ©cor, whether a room is pool-side or ocean-side
Images and descriptions of main features and amenities applying to each room category will usually be included on a hotel’s brand website and across its distribution channels. Summary Different types of rooms in hotels Types of Hotel Rooms Hotel Rooms by Occupancy Hotel Rooms by Bed Hotel Rooms by Design and Layout Hotel Rooms by Amenities or View Different types of rooms in hotels Resorts rooms luxurious accommodations that offer guests a comfortable and upscale stay during their vacation. Lodge rooms These rooms offer a cozy and rustic accommodation option for travelers looking to experience the great outdoors. Bunk Room has beds in bunk–style allowing for more beds to be places in the room without adding taking up too much space. This can be seen in either hostels or more upscale / innovative poshtels and hotels. Bunk-style beds with a creative twist for a space-conscious room layout. Hotel Rooms by Design & Layout ItÂŽs very typical for hotels to classify and price their rooms according to the layout and size of the room. YouÂŽll typically find names such as Standard Room your standard entry-level room. Deluxe Room & Superior Room the next step up in room categories, usually outfitted with slightly better amenities and larger footprint. Executive Room a hotel room more orientated towards business executive guests. Usually with a desk or space for guests to get some work done. Suite Rooms Junior Suite or Mini-Suite a single room with a bed and sitting area. Sometimes the sleeping area is in a bedroom separate from the parlour or living room. Master Suite a parlour or living room connected to one or more bedrooms. Executive Suite similar to the executive room but larger and with better amenities. Presidential room usually the largest and most luxurious room of the hotel property. Penthouse Suite a suite located on the top floor of the building, typically very similar to the presidential room in size and amenities; Villa Suite as the name suggests, this would be a separate villa of usually high quality and with numerous luxurious amenities. Aparthotel rooms / apart-style rooms similar to an apartment in amenities kitchen, dining area etc. and often segmented towards the short and long-stay market. An example of an Apart-style room with a small kitchen and separate seating area. Also, there are hotel rooms that connect to other rooms Connecting rooms Rooms with individual entrance doors from the outside and a connecting door between. Guests can move between rooms without going through the hallway. Adjoining rooms Rooms with a common wall, but no connecting door. Adjacent rooms Rooms close to each other, perhaps across the hall. Lastly, some hotels offer accessible rooms which offer easy access to people with disabilities or those who have limited mobility. These rooms typically have facilities such as ground floor access or level flooring up until an elevator, wheelchair ramps/wheelchair lift, lowered washing basins, widened doors etc. Hotel Rooms by Amenities or View Of course, hotels can choose to include names of the roomÂŽs amenities in the name to make entice visitors to book rooms with higher markup, and thereby make more revenue yielding. Examples include “Name of room” + with pool “Name of room” + with jacuzzi “Name of room” + balcony or terrace “Name of room” + beach access “Name of room” + club access private lounge Also, hoteliers should always choose to adjust their prices if the hotel offers a specific view, like the below examples Sea view room or suite City view room or suite Garden view room or suite Patio view room or suite Pool view room or suite Example of a resort that offers pool view rooms or villas. Also, our hotel consultants always point out that flexible hoteliers should always consider adding an additional bed for a child, where a couple with a toddler wishes to all sleep in the same room, or perhaps for an assigned caregiver. Also, in some rooms with single or double beds, a couch can be made into an extra bed where necessary. Finally, we should mention that often double rooms are booked by individual travellers who perhaps have trouble getting to sleep in a single bed, and prefer a double bed for their overnight stay or if they are staying for longer! Disney’s Boardwalk Villas are part of the Disney Vacation Club Resort at Walt Disney World. Most of the deluxe resorts at Disney World have a DVC wing that makes up a separate portion of the hotel. In this Boardwalk Villas review, we’ll look at the different villas, amenities, and benefits of staying in this portion of the resort. Additionally, we’ll preview a deluxe studio room and what it offers compared to a standard room at Boardwalk Inn. The Boardwalk Villas have several things going for them. Staying at the Boardwalk, in general, has one huge factor that shouldn’t be overlooked, the location. Like they say in real estate, location, location, location! The same goes for Disney World. Disney’s Boardwalk Villas are within walking distance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Being able to walk out of the resort and straight onto the walkway to a theme park is a huge advantage. You don’t have to worry about waiting on a bus or other forms of transportation. Instead, you can simply walk over, which leaves you in control of your arrival. Additionally, the Boardwalk Villas make up part of the Epcot Resorts Area. Therefore, you’ll have convenient access to shopping and dining at the surrounding hotels when staying in this area. With that noted, let’s take a look at the other attributes you’ll find here. This review was updated on February 24, 2022. The Boardwalk Villas offer different amenities than you would find in a standard guest room. All of the Disney World Villa Resorts offer a few conveniences similar to what we might have at home. For instance, a deluxe studio has a kitchenette, larger bathroom, and typically sleeps up to five guests. In comparison, a regular guest room will not have a kitchenette or any other extra amenities. The different units available at the Boardwalk Villas are Deluxe Studio VillaOne Bedroom VillaTwo Bedroom Lock-Off VillaThree Bedroom Grand Villa The two-bedroom lock-off villa is a combination of a deluxe studio and a one-bedroom villa. This unit will have a door that’s locked off between the rooms. That way, if the resort needs more one-bedrooms or deluxe studios, they can rent them separately. All the one-bedroom and larger villas offer a full kitchen and have a washer and dryer in the unit. As you can probably imagine, these amenities are convenient for a variety of different dynamics. Additionally, the following room views are considered upgrades Garden or Pool ViewBoardwalk View Disney’s Boardwalk is one of the few resorts where I recommend considering a view upgrade. However, I would only upgrade if I planned to spend a decent amount of time in the room. Usually, these villas are rented to the Disney Vacation Club members on a point system. However, while members are generally given first availability, Disney rents the villa rooms to regular guests. So, you do not have to be a DVC member to rent one of the villa units. Next, we’ll preview a deluxe studio villa so you can get a better idea of what to expect. Boardwalk Villas Deluxe Studio Below is a picture of the deluxe studio at Disney’s Boardwalk Villas. The villas have been refurbished in recent years. I thought the subtle color palette was refreshing and calming. The sage wall color and the pops of red and pink undertones help make the room feel spacious. Most studio rooms have a queen-size bed with a queen-size sleeper sofa. This studio was similar to the setup in our studio room at the Grand Floridian Villas. However, the Grand Floridian Villas are undergoing a significant refurbishment in 2022. Those new rooms will have a pull-down bed instead of a queen-size sleeper sofa. Related Grand Floridian Villas Review And after our stay in a deluxe studio at Disney’s Riviera Resort, I have to admit I prefer the pull-down Murphy bed over the sofa bed. The sofa beds are not very comfortable for a lengthy stay. Related Disney’s Riviera Resort Review A king-size bed is only available in a one-bedroom villa, two-bedroom villa, or three-bedroom grand villa. I thought the convertible table with chairs was a nice room amenity. The table folds out, making this area the perfect place to enjoy a meal. And a pull-down bed opens up, revealing a single trundle bed. These beds are usually recommended for children ages 12 and younger. Dumbo and Timothy Mouse are snoozing on the artwork inside the trundle bed panel. Here is a view of our room with the queen-size bed, queen-size sleeper, and trundle in use. The coffee table easily rolled out of the way, and I stacked the sofa cushions on top. There was still plenty of walking space in the area, and the balcony was still accessible. A large armoire sits in the corner with adequate storage space inside. The drawers were deep, and I liked that there wasn’t a lot of hidden storage in the room. I’m always afraid I’ll tuck something away and forget it when we leave. A majority of the Boardwalk Villas have balconies. We had a standard view room which ended up being a garden view. It was fun to watch the Disney Skyliner pass by our room in the distance. Moving on, the guest bath is a nice size. In addition, the vanity area is separate from the water closet. That’s always a plus when multiple people are getting ready. There was plenty of counter space and storage underneath the vanity. And there’s my favorite item, the built-in makeup mirror. To the immediate right of the vanity area is a full-size closet providing additional storage. Inside you’ll find an in-room safe, extra pillows and blankets, a luggage rack, and an iron with an ironing board. The actual bath has a standard shower with a tub combination. The deluxe studio baths are probably the largest item that varies significantly between the different villa resorts. For example, some Copper Creek Villas have a walk-in shower instead of a tub and shower combination. Related Copper Creek Villas Review And many of the newer deluxe studios have a split bath where one side of the bathroom has a tub and shower combination. Meanwhile, the other side of the bath has a walk-in shower and a vanity area. We’ve recently saw this setup at the new deluxe studios at the Polynesian. The Boardwalk Villas deluxe studio’s kitchenette is tucked in the hallway between the foyer and the main living space. The design of the kitchenette is practical, given the smaller space. While it’s not a fully equipped kitchen, the area is very efficient. It’s nice to have a sink in your room. Our room had a standard coffee maker. Complimentary coffee and accompaniments are provided. In addition, there was a roll of paper towels, dish liquid, and a kitchen towel. On the shelf above sits a microwave and toaster oven. I’ve always assumed that most people in these rooms prepare breakfast here to save money. And potentially a few other meals as well. Underneath the counter is a decent size refrigerator. These are a little larger than you would find in a standard hotel room. The top of the fridge has a freezer shelf. Typically, these rooms have ceramic dishes. You can use the sink to wash them and reuse them as needed throughout your trip. Below the sink is an area for the garbage and recycling bin. Having the ability to store these items out of the way is another thing I like about the room. Overall, I thought the room elements were well thought out. And I wouldn’t hesitate to reserve this room type again in the future. While I don’t want to delve deep into covering the entire hotel in this post, I do want to mention a few of the resort’s amenities. Below is a picture of the elevator lobbies. All the colors used in the resort are bright and charming. But I especially like the villas portion of the Boardwalk. Here’s a look at the updated Luna Park pool, the resort’s feature pool. There is a separate kiddie pool available in this area and a playground. If you are a pool person, you might prefer a stay at Disney’s Beach Club to use their Stormalong Bay pool area. They have the nicest pool on the property, and it’s shared with Disney’s Yacht Club. Related Best Pools at Disney World Back at the Boardwalk Villas, a separate quiet pool sits in front of Community Hall. DVC members are privy to some of the things inside Community Hall. All of the villas resorts offer a separate grill area for their guests. And Boardwalk Villa guests can use Muscles and Bustles gym. The resort’s gym provides an excellent place to maintain a workout schedule on vacation. Additionally, Boardwalk Inn is home to several dining venues. If you enjoy Disney signature dining, you are in luck. Some of the choices include Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Shula’s Steakhouse. Related Yachtsman Steakhouse Review Other dining options include Boardwalk Bakery, the resort’s quick-service dining location. A few other items on the Boardwalk include a pizza window, and there’s a stand that sells fast food-type items. Table service restaurants include Big River Grille, Trattoria al Forno, and the ESPN Bar and Grill. And the Boardwalk is home to two lounge options, Abracadabar and Belle Vue Lounge. Related Boardwalk Restaurants Guide With the addition of the Disney Skyliner, you might like to take it over to the Riviera or Caribbean Beach to enjoy a meal. If you visit the Riviera, I recommend eating at Primo Piatto, an elevated counter service dining option. And, of course, Topolino’s Terrace has a charming character breakfast. Related Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Review Final Thoughts on Disney’s Boardwalk Villas As you can see, a stay at the Boardwalk Villas has quite a lot to offer. It is also pleasant to take in these kinds of views on your walk home from Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Epcot. I highly recommend trying out a stay here if it meets your budget. Some things to think about This part of Disney World is a place that resonates home for me. So it’s not uncommon to find me taking a leisurely walk around Crescent Lake. If you’re considering a stay at Disney’s Boardwalk Villas, here are some things to think about Which type of villa would work best for my travel party and budget? Will we save money on meal costs by preparing food in the room?
